Join us as we walk in the footsteps of John Muir to raise awareness and resources for the campaign to restore the Hetch Hetchy Valley.

In 1913, John Muir led the fight to prevent the destruction of his beloved Hetch Hetchy Valley. Situated inside Yosemite National Park, this remarkable glacial valley was described by Muir as “one of nature’s rarest and most precious mountain temples.” Initially protected by the establishment of Yosemite National Park, the city of San Francisco won congressional approval in 1913 to build a dam and bury this extraordinary wilderness valley under 300 feet of water. John Muir died a year later.

From July 29 – August 4, 2012 six groups of Muir's Marchers will be professionally guided on a range of treks across Yosemite. Departing on different days and following separate routes they will all converge at Hetch Hetchy on August 4th for the Restoration Festival. Join us for 7 days, 4 days or 1 day as we walk in the footsteps of John Muir and rally for the restoration of Hetch Hetchy Valley. Each Marcher must raise the following amounts PRIOR to participating: 7 day Marchers: A minimum of $1900 4 day Marchers: A minimum of $1100 1 day Marchers: A minimum of $100/individual or $190/family Registration for the 2012 Muir’s March will open in mid-December.
