Mike Tollefson joins Restore Hetch Hetchy Advisory Board

Restore Hetch Hetchy elects Mike Tollefson to Advisory Board

Joins former superintendents Dave Mihalic, B.J. Griffin and Bob Binnewies

Mike Tollefson - confident that Hetch Hetchy will be restored

Restore Hetchy's Board of Directors has elected Mike Tollefson to our Advisory Board. Mike retired from the U.S. National Park Service in 2009 after serving as Superintendent of Yosemite National Park for 6 years.

Mike is the fourth former superintendent of Yosemite to join our Advisory Board, along with Dave Mihalic (1999-2003), B.J. Griffin (1995-1997) and Robert Binnewies (1979-1986). These former superintendents bring additional credibility and expertise to Restore Hetch Hetchy, and have helped us in several ways, including drafting both a letter to Congress and an editorial opinion supporting legislation a few years ago.

During his 36 year career with the National Park Service, Mike also served as superintendent at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Glacier Bay National Park, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Before becoming a superintendent, Mike served in six other national parks in positions from park ranger to chief of operations.

After his career with the NPS, Mike served as president of the Yosemite Conservancy where he raised funds for education, youth programs, and restoration projects in Yosemite. While attaining his degree at the University of Washington, Mike was an alpine ski instructor.  Mike also attained the rank of captain during his time in the Army reserves, where he taught winter mountaineering to combat troops.

Mike is confident that Hetch Hetchy Valley will be restored, and that the will of the people will demand that this special valley be protected as it was envisioned by John Muir.

Welcome to Restore Hetch Hetchy, Mike. It's great to have you on board..
