Restore Hetch Hetchy

November, 2000 Report to Contributors

November 1, 2000

Dear Friend of Hetch Hetchy,

During the past year, exciting progress has been made in the effort the restore Hetch Hetchy Valley, the place John Muir called "a wonderfully exact counterpart of Yosemite Valley . . . a grand landscape garden, one of Nature's rarest and most precious mountain temples."

Organizational Strength

RESTORE HETCH HETCHY continues to be supported by an active, enthusiastic Board of Directors and Advisory Committee. These talented individuals provide countless hours of personal time, energy, and financial support.

We have received both our tax-exempt status from the State of California, and our federal IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, tax-deductible status in 2001.

Outreach

With the creation of our new three-panel display and color brochure by a professional graphic designer, we have been able to spread the word at the California Wilderness Conference in Sacramento where Dave Brower was our workshop's featured speaker; the three-day John Muir Musical at the Concord/Chronicle Pavilion; and the Yosemite Association's annual meeting.

We have also been successful in receiving media attention in three, front-page newspaper articles: Stockton Record, Fresno Bee, and the San Francisco Examiner (please see enclosures), and have been cooperating with a documentary film crew that is interested in marketing our story to PBS stations.

Outings (day-hikes and overnight backpack trips down the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne River) continue to play an important role in educating people about the scenic and geologic wonders of Hetch Hetchy Valley.

Achieving the "Win-Win" outcome

Our Technical/Engineering Team has made substantial progress in preparing detailed documents that describe how to achieve the "win-win" outcome for Hetch Hetchy Valley and for the San Francisco Bay Area water and power users. While more work needs to be done, we are excited by the engineering possibilities that have been researched already.

Financial Support

Including a grant of $8,000 from Patagonia, we have raised over $30,000 from supporters of Hetch Hetchy's restoration. And, I am asking you to help in our fundraising effort - to send RESTORE HETCH HETCHY a tax-deductible contribution today.

Thank you very much for your support. Together, we can, as John Muir said, "do something to make the mountains glad."

Sincerely,

Ron Porter Good,
Chair of the Board of Directors

Thanks again for your support.
