Dear Superintendent Muldoon:

As the popularity of our national parks continues to increase, we believe it is important for the National Park Service to improve the visitor experience wherever possible. Much of Yosemite National Park is overcrowded, and in fact requires reservations during most of the year, but the Hetch Hetchy area is underutilized.

We support the following options to improve access and expand recreational opportunities at Hetch Hetchy:

  • Leaving the gate at the Hetch Hetchy entrance open 24 hours a day under normal circumstances, similar to the policy at Yosemite’s other 4 entrances;
  • Expanding trails;
  • Improving the campground and allowing all visitors to stay overnight at Hetch Hetchy; and
  • Allowing low-impact, non-polluting boating on the reservoir.
