Investing in the Future of Yosemite

Please consider making a contribution to invest in Yosemite's future.

Your contribution will be matched - dollar for dollar.

Could there be a better time to invest in the future of Yosemite National Park? Yosemite is one of the most iconic landscapes in the world with its towering granite cliffs, thundering waterfalls, verdant meadows and abundant wildlife. The park attracts visitors from around the world.

Yet for the past century, Yosemite has been compromised. Hetch Hetchy Valley lies under 300 feet of water behind the O'Shaughnessy Dam. Access to places beyond Hetch Hetchy, such as Tiltill Valley, Rancheria Falls and the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne is difficult at best and impractical for most.

For those who share the vision of restoring Hetch Hetchy Valley, there is no time like the present to invest in the future of Yosemite.

The narrow mouth of Hetch Hetchy Valley was attractive to engineers. The outcry over the decision to build the O'Shaughnessy Dam has ensured that future proposals to build dams in national parks have been uniformly rejected.

In April, we filed suit against San Francisco - the city that built and now operates the O'Shaughnessy Dam. We have alleged that the existing reservoir violates state and federal law, and that Hetch Hetchy Valley can be restored without losing a  drop of water supply. (For more information, see "Restore Hetch Hetchy Litigation Strategy in a Nutshell".)

The City of San Francisco is a powerful opponent and will fight us every step of the way. The merits - both legal and technical, however, are on our side.

In October, we won the first round. The court ruled in our favor that our case will stay in Tuolumne County where Hetch Hetchy is located.

We are pleased with progress to date, but we need your financial support to see this case to its conclusion.

The Restore Hetch Hetchy Board has pledged to match-dollar for dollar-up to $60,000 for all contributions made between November 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016. Your contribution during this time will go twice as far to help fund our legal challenge to the ongoing occupation of Hetch Hetchy Valley.

Please help us meet Restore Hetch Hetchy's $120,000 Board Challenge!

The damming of Hetch Hetchy Valley a century ago was a devastating loss for Yosemite and all of America's national parks. With your help, it is a mistake we can fix.

Please make a generous contribution. The board matches applies to contributions made through January 31, but why not make a tax-deductible contribution today? Let's bring Hetch Hetchy Valley back to life. Thank you for your support.
