"An Evening with John Muir: Conversation with a Tramp"
Performed by Lee Stetson
(VHS).
A KQED-TV S.F. production. 1992.
John Muir was a superb mountaineer, founder of the Sierra Club, architect of
the National Park idea, and a spell-binding story-teller, and his passionate
love of wilderness is captured here in a zestful performance by veteran actor
Lee Stetson.
A 100 foot climb to the top of a Douglas fir in the midst of a bracing windstorm,
a dance with death in the midst of the Yosemite Fall, a wilderness saunter
with Teddy Roosevelt, and his final stirring dsefense of Yosemite National
Park -- threatened by a dam project [in Hetch Hetchy Valley] -- are among the
many highlights you'll enjoy in this stunning performance.
CONVERSATION WITH A TRAMP, drawn from Muir's books, articles and journals,
and told largely in his own words, abounds with humor, energy and a gentle
philosophy which will delight the entire family.
LEE STETSON has created a one-man theatrical tour de force. This production
has played for more than a decade in Yosemite National Park, delighting well
over 100,000 visitors, and has toured extensively throughout the United States,
Canada, and Great Britain.
